Setting Up Stripe to Get Paid
Stripe is the payment company that pays you directly when someone buys your work. Its setup form asks a few questions written for businesses, so here is exactly what to choose if you are an individual artist selling your own work. It usually takes 5 to 10 minutes.
Have these ready
- Your legal name, date of birth, and home address
- Your Social Security number (Stripe may ask for just the last four digits first)
- Your bank account and routing number, where you want your sales deposited
- Your phone number and email
What to choose, screen by screen
- Business type: choose Unregistered business. Stripe's name for an individual who sells under their own name and has not formed a company. Choose Registered business only if you sell through an LLC, partnership, or corporation.
- Industry: Stripe has no

Under Retail, choose Other merchandise. If you make mostly one kind of thing you can instead pick Clothing and accessories (ribbon skirts and shirts) or Jewelry. It does not have to be exact.
- Your website: type gadugicrafts.com, or better, the address of your own artist page once you have pieces listed (it shows your actual work). If you also have your own website or a Facebook or Instagram page that shows what you sell, you may use that instead. You only need one. Stripe just wants a working page, not a placeholder or an

- Product description: two or three plain sentences about what you make. You can copy this and swap in your own crafts:
I make handmade Cherokee art, such as (your crafts, for example beadwork, baskets, pottery, ribbon skirts). I sell my work online through the Gadugi Crafts marketplace at gadugicrafts.com. Customers find my pieces on the marketplace and pay by card at checkout, and I ship each piece directly to the customer.
- Your personal details: your legal name, date of birth, home address, and Social Security number. Stripe uses these to verify who you are. This is Stripe's secure page, not ours.
- Payout schedule: Stripe asks how you want to be paid. We suggest automatic, weekly, on the day you prefer (for example Friday), so your sales are deposited without you doing anything. You can change it later.
- Bank account: where you want your sales paid out.
- Public details (statement descriptor): leave it exactly as Stripe fills it in (it will say GADUGICRAFTS.COM, and a shortened GADUGICRAF). This is the name on your buyer's card statement. Keeping it matching our website helps buyers recognize the charge, so fewer of them dispute it by mistake.
- Sales tax calculation (optional screen): tap Not right now. Gadugi Crafts calculates, collects, and reports the sales tax on marketplace sales for you, so you do not need Stripe Tax, and it can add fees.
- Fraud protection: choose Use baseline protection. It is Stripe's free level. The paid levels charge a small fee on every sale, and it comes out of your earnings.
Good to know
- Stripe pays you directly. Gadugi Crafts never holds your money.
- Stripe may take a little while to approve you. After you finish the setup, your dashboard Payments box may say Stripe is reviewing your information. That is normal and can take a few minutes, sometimes a day or two. Check back later. It will say “Payments are ready” when you are approved, and you cannot take orders until then.
- Your first payout from a new Stripe account is usually delayed 7 to 14 days while Stripe gets to know your account. After that, payouts follow your schedule.
- Stripe charges you its card processing fee on each sale (about 2.9% + $0.30). Gadugi Crafts takes its commission separately.
- If Stripe asks for a document to verify your identity, use a driver’s license or state ID. Upload it only on Stripe’s own page.
